TO GET THROUGH A whole day of riding (or being active in any way) it’s important that you refuel – properly. I was born with something called PCO Syndrom, something common among female professional athletes. It basically means I have more energy then what’s common, but it also means it’s even more important then in general I channel my energy in a beneficial way. Everything you think, do and EAT, recreate either negative or positive energy so one way of making sure I’m on top of the good side as often as possible is to eat right. It definitely takes a bit of an effort to eat right, but as often as I can I eat according to the gluten, dairy and sugar free diet Paleo, or ‘AIP’ (Auto Immune Protocol – the anti inflammatory diet) and it’s oh so worth it! So here are just some of my favourite to-go-snacks to the barn that keeps me going in a great way:
The Green smoothie:
Just mix kale, spinach, a half avocado, frozen berries of any kind, spirulina, cinnamon and full fat coconut milk. Top it with coconut sprinkles and maple syrup. It’s super yummy and so good for you!
Halva is I’d say my favourite treat at the moment. I usually buy mine with a coconut flavour, but you can also just mix some tahini, honey, vanilla extract and lemon juice to a yummy creamy mix!
The Golden Latte:
This is my coffee. & I seriously bring it everywhere in my thermos. But instead of promoting inflammation in your body, like regular coffee does, it prevents it through the very healthy anti inflammatory turmeric. You can buy the mix from my favourite brand NOBLE or make it yourself by cooking 1 cup of turmeric, 2 table spoons of ginger, a teaspoon cinnamon and half teaspoon black pepper until it’s a paste you can keep in the fridge. So simple. Then you mix a table spoon with any warm mylk of your choice. I always go coconut milk and top it with some honey and cinnamon. So yum!
The Horses snacks: Fruit!
& very often I just steal some of the horse’s snacks that my deeear horse owner Sarah normally brings to the barn:)) organic banana, apples and carrots! (Preferabley chopped and with some cinnamon and cardamon, or rosemary and honey.)
& PS. don’t forget to drink water water water!
