THE HALF-PASS is the lateral movement in which the horse moves forward and sideways at the same time. Unlike the leg yield, the horse is bent in the direction of travel, around the rider’s inside leg. The outside hind and forelegs crosses over the inside legs, with the horse’s body parallel to the arena wall and his forehand leading. When riding the half pass many riders get stuck focusing on keeping the bend in the neck, or in front of the saddle. But if you just make sure the front sticks to the line you decided, and then create the bent behind the saddle, it becomes much easier to keep the lightness and self carriage through the movement.
